Hey folks,
Thanks again to all the great musicians, kind listeners, and even an eager
dancer or five for coming out and making our new Dam Pub Traditional
Music Sessions a lot of fun for everyone. If you are checking this on the
website, and you haven’t been out for a listen or to share a tune, please join us.
This is a free, open, round-the-circle, twice-monthly session for anyone who
plays or enjoys traditional tunes and songs and wants to share music
in friendly, welcoming pub setting.
As with most sessions like this, Irish tunes are always a big part
of the mix, but we like trying a bit of everything, so join us please,
whatever your taste in tunes. I think our gathering this week of 13
musicians from as far east asOrillia and as far west as Port Elgin was
a new record, both for distance and participation. And with four
fiddles, we finallyoutnumbered the concertinas, along with mandolins,
piano, piano accordion, guitar, banjo, flutes, whistles, border pipes and
bodhrans.
Quite a mix.
And what a great blast of tunes and songs from parts of Canada, of course, as well
as the usual mix of Irish and Scottish jigs, reels and hornpipes. And we also had
some tunes from the U.S.A, England, France, Spain and who knows where else.
For anyone who wants to expand repertoire, here’s a great tune called
Jamie Allen that Bryan Sutton has been promoting during the sessions recently.
And these two Shetland reels that Gord Price introduced at the first get together
in September have started to really catch on. Give them a go, won’t you.
Thanks Bryan and Gord.
See you all next session.
Will Henry
